Competitive Groups

TAG offers a wide variety of academic competitions and other clubs and organizations that provide lots of opportunities for students to get involved, to learn new or improve existing skills, and to meet new people and make new friends!

Academic Decathlon (AcDec): The Academic Decathlon is the only annual high school academic competition organized by the non-profit United States Academic Decathlon Association (USAD). The competition consists of seven multiple choice tests, two performance events, and an essay. (Ms. Greer / Ms. Malone)

Destination Imagination (DI): [W]hen an educational experience is hands-on, collaborative and fun, students are empowered to take their learning to the next level and are excited to do so. DI provides unique educational experiences across seven project-based Challenge types–Technical, Scientific, Engineering, Fine Arts, Improvisational, Service Learning, and Early Learning. eSports: Gamers unite! This DISD-sponsored club competes in four games: Smash Bros., League of Legends, Fornite, and Rocket League! (Mr. Brown / Mr. Cadle)

FTC Robotics: At Iron Reign, we build cool robots and have tons of fun doing it. You'll be able to learn CAD, coding, manufacturing, documentation, and presentation skills. If we advance, we will travel to Austin & Houston for higher levels of competition. Check out our insta or website for more info! (Mr. Florczak – SEM) 

Mock Trial: Thousands of high school students from across Texas participate in this highly motivating, energetic, and challenging academic competition! The program provides a great way for students to gain an “insider’s view” of our judicial system, gain confidence speaking in front of others and have a lot of fun at the same time. (Mr. Brown)

Model United Nations (xykik5r): Model UN is a simulation of the United Nations and other international organizations. As a delegate representing a particular country, you will cooperate with other delegates in your committee to write resolutions addressing global issues. It's a great activity to learn about the biggest problems facing our world and to practice research, communication, and collaboration. (Mr. Mancini / Ms. Ellis)

Quizbowl: Quiz Bowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge, including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, popular culture, sports, and more. There are also tournaments for individual players rather than teams. (Ms. Malone)  

TMSCA: is an organization formed by Texas math and science teachers to promote excellence in math and science through competition. It was formed in 1981 to promote uniformity in the practice meets held to prepare students for University Interscholastic League competition in the spring. Through its efforts grade-level competition is now the norm at practice meets. (Mr. Burton)

**Townview Big “D” Band: The Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center band is one of Dallas’ best all-around programs for the past 27 years and includes the Big “D'” Marching Band, Concert Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band I and II, and Big “D” Combos. The award-winning program is comprised of students from all six Townview schools. @townviewbigdband (Mr. Gipson)

**Townview Choir, Modern Band and Orchestra: Townview Magnet Center is the premier public high school in the country and its excellence in academic endeavors is echoed in the Music Department. More than a department, music at Townview creates a family. **Townview JROTC: To develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community. To instill values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment. JROTC helps students achieve life skills. Cadets are taught invaluable skills.
